Shared Folders
74 TopicsSharing large folder with new user, they can't join it without upgrading their account
I have a family subscription which allows me to use 2TB of storage. I want to share one of my folders with a new user who is not part of my Dropbox Family. The folder is over the 2GB basic limit. The user seemingly cannot join the folder without upgrading their subscription to get more storage. Is there a way to make the folder online only, so that the user isn't using their own storage allocation?48Views0likes4CommentsMy quota is being occupied by shared folders
Hi everyone, I'm having problems with my dropbox account, the alert tells me that I have exceeded the space limit (12TB) and therefore I have deleted some large files, even though I have deleted them I continue to have the same problem, from what I see most of the space is occupied by shared files but I don't have so many shared files, can anyone help me?61Views0likes2CommentsI can't access shared folder due to lack of storage space - do I need to upgrade?
I use dropbox occasionally. I have a free account, one I've had for years. This morning I logged in to access some files a friend shared w/me & dropbox will not let me access it unless I upgrade to some "plan". That page is the same page with which I was greeted upon logging in. I'm at about 650 mg of my 2G free account limit. I am not over storage, unless my free account has been somehow restricted/modified. I've tried several times to access the notification to "join folder" from my friend, only to be taken to this prompt:Solved408Views0likes17CommentsWhy did I go over-quota, if the owner of the shared folder has a paid account?
I’m sharing files to a company folder that was created specifically for me. However, on my end, Dropbox is asking me to upgrade because I’ve run out of storage. The company I’m working with has a professional account, so I’m unsure why I’m being asked to pay in order to upload files to their folder.53Views0likes1CommentWhy do shared folders by others count against my Dropbox space?
The logic provide by Dropbox team earlier is utter nonsense. According to dropbox we are accessing your own COPY of the folder within our account. I dont believe dropbox engineering team has designed such a redundant software. I can understand if they are copied in case other users want to edit the file, but else it is a ridiculous excuse by Dropbox to make money saying "its to cover the increased costs associated with sharing". And technology is already advanced to allow other users with editing access to files without copying those files. Can dropbox comment on this?Solved36Views0likes1CommentMy account is full of shared files - How can I delete them to free up space?
My account is entirely full with files other people shared to me. I have no personal files stored. If I attempt to delete any files from the folder mirrored to my desktop account, it says I need permissions and won't allow me to delete. If I go to the Dropbox website, I can't find a button that allows me to delete a file. How can I delete some of the files shared to me? Will that delete those files on someone else's machine?66Views0likes8CommentsDropbox Basic plan stuck at 77GB storage usage and I can’t upload to shared folder
Hi Dropbox team, I’ve recently dropped back to the free plan, and my storage usage is showing 77GB, even though I’ve removed all personal files and only have access to a shared folder that’s owned by someone else. I’ve also checked the “Deleted Files” section and cleared everything out, but my storage usage still says 77GB. Now I can’t even upload a 1MB file to the shared folder I use with my office. Could someone please manually recalculate my storage usage or advise how to fix this? I need access to the shared folder for work and I’m stuck at 0 bytes of available storage. Thanks in advance!Solved85Views0likes4CommentsMy account is full and stopped syncing due to a shared folder
I am so angry right now that I wish I could just delete DropBox and not use it again. But I need to use it because that's the way my Client prefers to share files. Because they have shared folders that are bigger than my quota, it has limited my abilities on dropbox to where I can't even upload files to send back to them. So I'm just using my Google Drive and I'll use WeTransfer if I need. I hope someone from DropBox hears this and does something about it. It's dirty and not right to try to force someone into a paid subscription, or a bigger paid subscription, because the people that they do business for use a larger DropBox subscription/plan. Also, would you please add a column to show the size of each folder/file so you don't have to hover over each folder and say "show file/folder info" to find the size??58Views0likes4CommentsDropbox says I'm using more space than I do, but I don't see this anywhere.
Hi. My dropbox account is listing more than twice the amount of storage space used than the total from the folders that I have. I have zero regular files, and have never used backup. I have two shared folders, that total about 800mb together, but dropbox is saying that shared folders are instead taking up 1.7gb of my 2gb space given with a basic account. I had nothing in my trash so tried moving and deleting a folder, to see if the total reset, but it didn't help. I've searched here for a solution and it seems to be usually an issue with cache or backups, but I have never used backup and don't have the desktop or mobile app installed. I've included the screenshots below which seem to be asked for for others with similar problems. Any help would be much appreciated. Thankyou.Solved132Views0likes4CommentsWhy is my account full because of shared files?
Hello ! I have no files on my Dropbox Basic, but connected to 2.3 GB shared files. The shared files are not my files – someone else is paying a fee to store them on Dropbox. Is that an error that Dropbox is asking me to upgrade for accessing the shared files or just a way for Dropbox to get paid twice...?! Thank you for sharing your opinion... :)Solved177Views0likes7Comments
